"Antz is the first animated film, as well as the first CGI-animated film, by DreamWorks and the second computer-animated film released in the United States after Toy Story." Many well known actors and actress were the voice overs in this movie. Some characters even shared similar facial features.

Prince of Egypt


Release date: December, 1998
"The film was nominated for best Original Music Score and won for Best Original Song at the 1999 Academy Awards for When You Believe. American animated musical film and the first traditionally animated film produced and released by DreamWorks Animation. The film is an adaption of the Book of Exodus and follows the life of Moses and from being prince of Egypt to his ultimate destiny to lead the Hebrew slaves out of Egypt."

Before production began they traveled through Egypt for a couple of weeks. They also brought in bible scholars form Jewish, Muslim and Arab backgrounds because they were concerned about the historical and theological accuracy. 


The idea for the film came out Steven Spielberg's living room. One of the 3 of them said you should do the 10 commandments.  A short while later they came up with story boards that they put into Avid Media Composer digital editing system to create a story real. The story real allowed them to edit the entire movie.

The Road to El Dorado

They found this difficult to produce after putting so much creative effort into "The Prince of Egypt". This movie was again just like the previous movie and made in the same fashion.

Tulio and Miguel are thief's that lie steal and cheat there way through life. They were is Spain when they won "a map purportedly to the city of gold, El Dorado along with a large number of other valuables by cheating at a game of dice". They were stowaways on a oat that landed them in the City of gold.

Chicken Run

"British stop-motion animation film made by the Aardman Animations studios, the production studio of the Oscar-winning Wallace and Gromit films." The two studios both co-financed the film.Although Aardman Animations started creating the animation in 1995 Dreamworks came on board in 1997.
The chickens wear scarves to hide the joint between the head and the body. The scarves cover up the seam. The bodies of the chickens are articulated steel frames coated in silicon rubber while the heads are plasticine.

Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron

"Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was made over the course of four years using a conscious blend of traditional hand-drawn animation and computer animation in a technique the film's creators dubbed "tradigital animation."" It is a western based on a stallion that is a leader that needs to keep his herd safe.
Real horses were used for the sound, and the studio purchased a real horse and brought it to the studio for them to study. They took trips to the southwest to get inspiration for scenes. a

 2D  mixed with 3D. This is the last traditional animated film made by Dreamworks. It was also the first movie ever made using the Unix system. The main characters were hand drawn will the monsters in the background were computer animated.

Shark Tale

Release date: 2004 CGI comedy film.
There was a lot of countraversy of this film any many ways. It was similar to Finding Nemo, The Italians, Gay groups, had an issue with then film. It also got grief because of the more mature content. Personally I like this movie and own it as well as many of the other Dreamworks films.

the curse of the were rabbit

Release date: 2005
British clay-mation animated film, the first feature-length Wallace and Gromit film. Dreamworks partnerd up with Aardman features, the film was produced in the UK.
 After usability testing of the film on children they decided to tone down the British acents to make it easier for Americans to understand. They had to change some of the wording as well.
This film won an enormous  amount of awards and nominations.

Flushed Away

Release date: 2006 computer animated British film.
It was another partnership between Aardman Animations & Dreamworks, and "is Aardman's first completely computer-animated feature as opposed to the usual stop-motion." The original idea for the movie involved pirates, but Dreamworks thought at the time there was no market for pirates.

After watching this trailer and seeing the movie many times, I was wondering why there were 2 hamsters in the trailers that I had never seen in the movie. They were removed in the revisions of the film.

Kung Fu Panda

Release date: 2008 American animated film. The computer animation in the film was more complex than anything DreamWorks had done before. They visited China to gather inspiration for the film. The animaters also took a Kungfu class. "A sequel, Kung Fu Panda 2, is in production and set for release on May, 2011." The hand-drawn animation sequence at the beginning of the film was made to resemble Chinese shadow puppetry. It took more than 4 years to make and the idea had been around even longer.

MONSTERS VS. ALIENS

Release date: 2009 American computer-animated 3-D feature film. "The computer-animated movie was the first to be directly produced in a stereoscopic 3-D format instead of being converted into 3-D after completion." "it took approximately 45.6 million computing hours to make Monsters vs. Aliens." It also took over 120 terabytes to complete the film. They had thousands of software and hardware to make this film come to life.

They premiered the trailer during Superbowl half time and handed out 3Dglasses at grocers, so we could get the full effect in 3D.

 This film strongly resembled the book it was based off of. But was that to be to nice and sweet so they changed it half way through production. They also had struggles realizing them film because other 3D movies were trying to be released at the same time. SO there were struggles over theaters and their 3D screens.
